Founded October 2017 and namesake of owner Eduardo “Eddie” Ortiz, Eddie O’s Texas Barbecue (Eddie O's BBQ) has positioned itself within the ranks of Houston’s new crop of rising barbecue entrepreneurs. Born to Texan parents and grandparents, Chicanos of Mexican-American descent, Ortiz grew up in a culinary world where traditional Texas barbecue and Tejano cooking traditions intersected. As part of a new generation of Tejano pitmasters inspired by the cooking traditions of his ancestors, Ortiz aims to share more broadly the memories and inspirations born from his upbringing, a growing-up characterized by barbecue, familia, and tortillas. Eddie O's uses pecan wood only.
By way of forwarding Eddie O's BBQ, Ortiz has embarked upon a parallel journey to share his barbecue-inspired smoked-brisket and queso blanco empanadas, found only in Houston at Eddie O's BBQ. He loves his daughters, parents, grandmother, Garner State Park and the Houston Texans.
